Yatour does not read a USB drive: what to check

You copied the music, plugged in the drive — and nothing plays. Or one album works, even though you copied ten. Before rebuilding your whole collection, try a few simple checks. Change one thing at a time so you can tell what helped.

Can the head unit see Yatour?

First, try selecting the CD changer on the head unit. If it cannot see the adapter at all, start with the connections and installation instructions.

Check the music once Yatour is recognized. If you are unsure about the wiring, ask an installer to look at it.

Open the drive on your computer

What do you see when you first open it? For a collection prepared with yatour.site, CD01, CD02 and the other CD folders should be right there.

It is easy to copy the ZIP itself, or put all the CD folders inside one extra folder. Extract the archive and copy the CD folders directly onto the drive.

Then compare their names and track counts with your adapter instructions.

Try just a few songs

Prepare one CD folder with a few MP3s that play normally on your computer. If that selection works in the car, add music a little at a time.

This makes it easier to find a troublesome song or the point where things stop working. Check the skipped-file list on the site.

If processing stops on one track, uncheck it and try again.

Check the drive itself

Look up the supported drive capacity and filesystem in the instructions for your model. A forum tip for another Yatour may not fit yours.

If you have another working drive that meets those requirements, try the same small selection on it. Do not start by formatting: that erases every file on the drive.

If you need to do it, copy anything you want to keep somewhere else first.

Format a drive as FAT32: Windows and Mac

There is more to a file than .mp3

Renaming a song from another format to .mp3 does not turn it into an MP3. Even real MP3s can use different recording settings.

The site checks and prepares audio, but it cannot promise playback on every head unit. If one song still refuses to play, compare its bitrate, sample rate and channels with the manual.

For WMA with an unsupported sample rate or channel count, the site shows an error rather than changing those settings for you.

What if only some songs play?

Check the folder and track limits: some songs may be beyond what your model can read. Then look at the preview to see which files were skipped and how the others are named.

Try a suspect track on its own. You may also find system files on the drive after copying; your computer can create these again.

They are not music, and the site leaves them out of the ZIP.

When to check the adapter

If a small selection arranged according to the manual still fails on a suitable working drive, the adapter, its power supply or its connection to the head unit may need attention. Preparing music cannot fix those problems.

Note the Yatour and head-unit models, what happens and what you have already tried. That gives the seller or installer something useful to work with.

Do any checks in the car while parked.
